How to install Megacubo on Android TV, Fire TV and TV boxes

On Android the installation is an APK, distributed by the project's site — the package is tv.megacubo.app and there is no version on Google Play. It takes five steps, and the only one that usually blocks people is the first: allowing installs from external sources on the device.

Requirements and what changes on a TV are on the Android TV page.

Step by step

  1. Allow installs from external sources — on a phone or tablet, allow it for the browser or file manager that will open the file; on a TV, open the APK with the device's file manager.
  2. Download the APK from the official site — megacubo.tv. The APK is also published in the project's releases, for x64 and ARM64.
  3. Install the file — if the installation fails, remove the old version and install again; that is the most common cause.
  4. Grant the permissions it asks for — storage (for the cache), internet, keeping the device awake during playback and network state.
  5. Follow the wizard and add your playlist — language, performance suggestion and the first playlist, which is always yours or the community's.

Steps checked on 2026-09-25 in the project's documentation (Installation), and aligned with our Android TV page.

Why the application asks for each permission

Storage
For the stream cache and to keep the files you download with the Premium license
Internet
To load the playlists and play the streams — the application does not work without a network
Keeping the device awake
So the screen does not go dark in the middle of a long programme, without you having to touch the remote
Network state
For casting to the TV, which needs to know whether you are on the same network as the target device

What usually goes wrong

Stuttering during playback has its own page: the channel stutters or drops.

Frequently asked questions

Is Megacubo on Google Play?

No. On Android the application is distributed as an APK from the project's official site, with the package tv.megacubo.app, and the installation happens outside the store. Updating, on Android, is downloading the new APK — it is not a store update.

The installation failed. What should I do?

The step that fixes most cases is removing the old version before installing the new one: Android refuses to install over a package signed with a different key. It is also worth checking that the device has free space and that installs from external sources are allowed for the application that opened the file.

Does the application work with a remote control?

Yes, on Android TV screens and TV boxes the interface can be navigated with a remote control, just like the desktop version. It is the same application as on the other platforms, with the same playlist and the same settings.
